our history

No Stakes Theater Project was founded in August 2014. We produced a staged reading of Jim Cartwright's The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at the Foxhole Chicago, directed by Artistic Director Erin Shea Brady and featuring Artistic Associates Rebecca Sohn, Scarlet Sheppard and Associate Artistic Director Ian Michael James.

Following the success of the staged reading, No Stakes produced Cartwright's play in full in August 2015 at Theater Wit. The production came "Highly Recommended" by Chicago Reader, as well as several other local news outlets, and was a crucial developmental step for many of the artists involved. The production was directed by Erin Shea Brady and featured Artistic Associates Rebecca Sohn, Scarlet Sheppard, Greg Mills and Johnathan Wallace.

In 2016, we began building our development initiatives, providing support for artists and storytellers and providing them with a safe space to take the creative risks required for their growth.

“[The Rise and Fall of Little Voice] is the Chicago summer theater fantasy: some company you never heard of stages a show you might never have noticed...and it kicks ass.”
— Tony Adler, Chicago Reader
